Zeus Varis Fund Happy Tales
Imagine this kind of a tribute! Composed, performed and recorded by her friends at the Jazz Foundation of America that she supports, Dr. Agnes Varis received a CD of “Blue Kisses to Zeus” shortly after her beloved cat, Zeus, died of lymphoma in 2009, to give her comfort and remind her that her many friends felt her grief.
Frankie’s Friends was very fortunate to receive a donation from Dr. Varis in memory of Zeus and in honor of Dr. Timothy Rocha and the oncology team at NYC Veterinary Specialists. The Zeus Varis Fund established by Dr. Varis helps NYC’s cats and dogs that are diagnosed with cancer receive treatment to help them remain comfortable and at home. To be eligible, the pet must be referred to NYC Veterinary Specialists by the family’s veterinarian and the pet’s family must demonstrate their financial situation would prevent pursuit of treatment.
Zeus, a domestic long hair cat, and his sister, Kallee, a calico, were adopted in 1995 as kittens from Bideawee by Dr. Varis and her husband, Karl Leichtman. Zeus was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2009. He enjoyed a high-quality of life post-diagnosis under the care and attention of Dr. Rocha, a time for which Dr. Varis and Mr. Leichtman are grateful to have had with Zeus.
